The Best Kitchen Countertops: How to Order the Right Countertop for Your Kitchen

Kitchen countertops come in many different shapes, sizes, and materials. You can install sleek black granite worktops, flashy quartz or marble worktops, or even a classic wooden or Corian countertop.

Some people love the stainless-steel look, and others prefer to go with Formica or soapstone, but every countertop material has its advantages and disadvantages.

Every type of countertop, whether it’s an expensive or affordable material, has drawbacks. Not every countertop will suit every purpose, so take this into account when choosing the right material for your kitchen.

Today we’re going to show you how to select the perfect kitchen countertop to suit your needs and the needs of your family. We’ll also take you through each step of ordering the right countertop for your kitchen.

How To Choose The Right Kitchen Countertop

When you’re looking for the best kitchen countertop, there are a lot of things to consider. The kitchen is one of the most in-demand rooms in your home. It’s where your family spends most of their time, and some say it’s the true heart of the home.

Here are three things to consider when choosing a kitchen countertop.

Who’s using it?

If you’re selecting your new kitchen countertop, then consider how your kitchen is used.

Who uses the kitchen the most?

What do they use it for?

This will help you narrow down your kitchen countertop decision.

For example, some surfaces are better for young children, and other materials might be more suitable for older children and adults. Choosing the right kitchen countertop will entirely depend on your current family or home dynamic.

What’s the style of your kitchen like?

The overall style of your kitchen should also be considered when choosing the appropriate kitchen worktop. If your home has a rustic feel or vibe, then going for a wooden countertop might be the right choice, whereas a concrete or marble worktop might not fit right and belongs with a more contemporary home.

Don’t forget to take the color of your kitchen cabinets into account too!

If they’re a dark color, then avoid using a dark countertop. Instead, go for lighter countertop material. White cabinetry can be offset beautifully by black granite countertops and black hardware.

How much maintenance is needed?

The final thing that contributes to choosing the right kitchen countertop is the maintenance required to keep it.

You should consider the care needed to keep your chosen countertop material looking great year after year, so it continues to provide you with a solid work surface for cooking and dining.

If you’ve got a lot of small children, investing in an expensive marble countertop might not be the best idea. Kids destroy a lot of things, including countertops. So consider getting something more sturdy for the time being until they’ve grown up a bit.

Solid wood countertops need regular oiling to keep them watertight and in top condition. So if you don’t have the time to keep up with the maintenance it might be best to opt for a low maintenance work surface.

Our 5-Step Process for Ordering Kitchen Countertops

Now that you know how to choose the right kitchen countertop, here’s how to get your hands on the perfect kitchen countertops for your home.

With our 5-step process, you’ll be able to get the best kitchen countertop for you and your family.

Here’s how it works!

1. Discovery & Planning

Our team of kitchen experts will have a discovery meeting with you where we’ll show you all the materials we have available for your kitchen countertop. We offer a wide selection of laminates, quartz, and natural stones like granite.

We’ll talk you through the durability and the functionality of each material and help you choose the perfect countertop material for your kitchen’s needs.

2. Measurements & Visit

Next, we’ll visit your home to take the measurements required to give you an accurate cost estimate. We can provide you with an estimate based on the construction documents, but it won’t be as precise.

3. Initial Estimate

After taking the measurements, our designers will be able to give you an official estimate on how much your new countertops will cost.

Here you can review the details and make any changes you’d like. Our designers will happily walk you through the process and the material selections again before signing off on your project.

A 40% deposit must be paid upfront to order materials, and the final payment is paid upon completing your brand new kitchen countertop.

4. Template Preparation

As soon as your deposit is paid and your materials are ordered, we can arrange to view the job site before the template is created. You’ll have until the day of the template to make any changes.

To prepare for a template:

  • All cabinets must be installed
  • Apron front sinks must be installed
  • Applicable sinks, faucets, and appliances must be onsite

As the customer, your responsibilities are:

  • To have a decision-maker over the age of 18 onsite
  • To organize a plumber to disconnect the plumbing
  • Empty all base cabinets
  • Call a carpenter to remove existing countertops - we can schedule this for you if you like
  • Schedule a plumber to reconnect plumbing

5. Installation

Finally, it’s time to install your countertop!

Installation takes place about 1-2 weeks post-template, and the final payment will be due on the day of installation.
